St. Ignace, Michigan - "Your Home Port"

St. Ignace, the 2nd oldest settlement in Michigan, lies at the northern end of the Mackinac Bridge. The picturesque downtown boasts unique shops, restaurants specializing in local recipes, and historical museums, all strung along the waterfront on Lake Huron. Shimmering in the distance across the bay is the famous Mackinac Island; a favorite destination for a day trip.

St. Ignace is unique for its woods, its waters and its history. The Hiawatha National Forest surrounds the entire region. Within the forest are scenic trails, spectacular waterfalls, and hundreds of lakes and rivers to explore. Historic treasures lie beneath the sparkling waters. The Great Lakes Shipwreck Preserve is home to some of the best preserved shipwrecks in the world. Wrecks from the 1800's through the 1960's await divers. There are three sites accessible from the shores of St. Ignace. The history is told through several museums and memorials like the Father Marquette National Memorial.

The Mackinac Bridge is heralded as one of the great engineering feats of its time and still stands as a definitive icon of the upper peninsula of Michigan.  The upper peninsula has seen a long list of engineering marvels created during the lumber and mining booms of previous centuries.
