The "Thumb"
A Michigan back roads day trip to the Michigan "thumb" region can easily turn into Michigan back roads getaway. Unusual and interesting destinations are all around. Lower Michigan is known as the "mitten" and the "thumb" is known as the forgotten digit. There are beautiful drives, historic treasures and some oddities. Some destinations in this region, like the Secret Passage, aren't technically in the thumb, but they definitely aren't the Southeast Region, so they are listed in this section.
