Michigan getaways, terrific towns, attractions and lesser known destinations.
Road trips, surprises and festivals from the web sites.
This site and its companion sites are all about short Michigan getaways along the back roads. The focus is on small historic towns, historic destinations, unusual destinations, unique lodging and local shops. There is very little here about our more famous places. There is a wealth of information here about the lesser known places and towns that you may have missed.
These sites also provide a very affordable, high-traffic opportunity for businesses and communities to promote their features and festivals.
Terrific Towns
Terrific Towns are selected after careful evaluation. We look for towns with a great quality of life, pride in history and a plan for continued success. In addition, these are places that are not as famous as they might deserve to be. Each one has something unique to offer to the visitor, a festival, a local treasure and always an evolving community. You will find Unique Shops, Unique Lodging and that special Made in Michigan.
Go to the Terrific Towns section »The Regions
Michigan is one of the most diverse states in the union. The "thumb" is as different from the rest of Region 5 as the western upper peninsula is from the eastern upper peninsula. The southeast of Michigan couldn't be any different from the southwest.
Go to the Regions section »Up North Michigan and Historic Towns
"Up North" is a term we all understand in a different way. Back in the day it meant north of Clare at least and to some it meant north of Indian River to native Michiganders. In the 1800's and to those south of Michigan, "up north" has meant and still means anything north of U.S. 12, the Great Sauk Trail. Here you will find Natural Wonders, Scenic Drives and Trails and small historic towns.
