Michigan getaway vacations to
Michigan attractions and Terrific Towns
Port Sanilac is a Michigan gem on the shore of Lake Huron. Steeped in the history of the Great Lakes and the Lumber Era, Port Sanilac is a thriving community today. This is a great place for a day trip. You will find plenty to do for a day or a weekend enjoying the attractions and the local arts scene.
Michigan’s
great freshwater lakes are perfect for preserving underwater history.
Michigan boasts nine underwater preserves covering an area nearly the
size of Delaware. This underwater preserve system results in the finest
sport diving in the Midwest. Divers flock to Lexington to explore the
Sanilac Shores Underwater Preserve. There are at least four shipwrecks
to be explored in this preserve. An amateur skin or scuba diver can
easily view two of them. Some of the shipwrecks with more obstructions
should only be viewed by more experienced divers. For those that would
rather stay dry, the Sanilac Shores area offers other such unique
attractions as the Port Sanilac Lighthouse, Sanilac Petroglyphs (early
American Indian drawings and writings), and museums.
