You arrive in Ludington the usual ways or perhaps you took the Badger car ferry. If you arrive in mid-may you will notice that Ludington Ave. has sprung to life with thousands of petunias that have been planted by the local residents. As you drive downtown you will notice a big historic church just to the east of the main avenue. That building houses the Ludington Area Arts Council and is a real treasure. You can learn more about the history of this building by visiting Todd and Brad Reed downtown, world class photographers and local historians.
The
Abbey
Lynn Inn is one of several Bed and Breakfasts
located here. They have long been supporters of
all things Ludington and can offer advice, directions
and an amazing breakfast to start your day.
There are so many popular places to visit that it is impossible to list them all. There is the beach at Lake Michigan which will provide that romantic sunset you long for. There is the Ludington State Park that is considered one of the finest in the state and is home to the Big Sable Lighthouse. There is Pere Marquette Park where you can visit one of the sites that claim to be the final resting place of the famous missionary. There is White Pine Village and, hiking and biking trails and so much more.
The
Book Mark is one of those rare shops that are so hard to
find. Locally owned, big and spacious with a
coffee shop, plenty of room, a friendly atmosphere and
folks who know the area.
There are lots of cool shops and there are artists and art galleries all over the place. For dining you have everything possible to choose from. Try not to miss the Jamesport Brewing Company on James Street. This is a brew-pub that really has a top brewer. The dry stout is second to none.
If you just need a sandwich, nothing can touch the Ruben that is served at the Irish Sports Bar downtown. After that you will almost have to head out to the beach and the park. Along the drive to the lighthouse are great locally owned lodges and motels to accommodate those lucky enough for an extended stay.
