Sunrise Side & The "Thumb"

garfield innAfter visiting just a few of the treasures hidden away along Lake Huron and the whole sunrise coast, you will certainly want to plan more trips both short and long. Consider a drive along the thumb coast on M-23; at any season of the year the drive from Lexington to Port Austin is a pure delight of spectacular lakeshore, historic towns, museums, lighthouses and beaches. There are unique shops, B&B's, old Michigan cabins and fine dining.

The sunrise side of Michigan remains unexplored by most  and the "thumb" is just part of it.

Ancient history can be seen at the Sanilac Petroglyphs and there are fewer towns with as much history as Grindstone City.  .  Go further inland and enjoy the Southern Links Trailway from Columbiaville to Millington.  For fun on the river it is hard to beat a trip to Chesaning.  When you leave the thumb and head north the historic Saginaw bay is full of surprises like the Tridge.
