Sunrise Coast - Region 3
The
sunrise side of Michigan, especially the far northeast,
offers attractions and destinations that are a world
away from the hectic pace common on the other coast.
The northeast from Tawas to the big bridge is now
officially known as the "sunrise coast" and is
remarkably different from the other sunrise side coast
along the "thumb". You will enjoy lighthouses,
great fishing, unspoiled beaches and unique festivals.
However, there is more than just the "sunrise coast".
A Michigan road trip to the interior areas will reward the traveler with paddle boats on the AuSable, one of the few waterfalls in the lower peninsula, ancient springs that were regarded as sacred places, and even bears. There are wild areas that are perfect habitat for Kirtland's Warblers, unique museums, lumbering historic sites and spectacular Opera houses. The River Road is one of two Scenic Byways in Michigan.
