white river lighthouseIt might seem odd to plan a getaway to a lake that is very nearly a part of Lake Michigan, but White Lake is so charming that many people do just that. White Lake is connected to Lake Michigan by the White River. In addition to an the natural beauty of the lakes, streams, overlooks and trails, the White Lake area offers the visitor the arts, unique shops, historic lighthouses, and great festivals. In every season, the principle towns of Montague and Whitehall, welcome visitors to shop, dine and relax for a day.

The shopping venues in both towns include antiques, boutiques, and art galleries. The Book Nook is a favorite in day time. Their entertainment includes space to browse the books, gourmet coffees and cakes, and regular live music performances. In the evening, some people travel here for live theatre. The Howmet Playhouse offers an intimate 400-seat venue for lyric and musical theatre, jazz, blues, folk and classical concerts, screen presentations, fundraisers and business meetings. This theatre is unique in several ways. It is one of only a handful of theatres that was constructed with a plaster "Kappeldome". This feature, named after a German designer, enhances the acoustics and ensures that voices are projected throughout the theatre. The acoustics at the Howmet Playhouse are among the best in Western Michigan.

White Lake, Michigan is a fun road trip getaway.
