Lexington Harbor Port of Refuge Michigan
Getaway
Map
to Lexington, MI US
Three permanent boat docks were erected by 1870 and
initially lumber, then agricultural products including
fruits were being shipped. The great storm of 1913
destroyed the original docks. Now folks enjoy the
wonderful limestone breakwaters and modern marina.
Boating is still an important part of life in Lexington. The
Harbor of Refuge, with it's natural limestone seawall and
sturdy walkway, is hailed as one of Michigan's most
beautiful.
Divers flock to Lexington Michigan to explore the Sanilac
Shores Underwater Preserve. There are at least four
shipwrecks to be explored in this preserve. An ameture skin
or scuba diver can easily view two of them. Some of the
shipwrecks with more obstructions should only be viewed by
more experienced divers.
