Michigan's Hartwick Pines

Hartwick Pines State Park is the largest State Park in the lower peninsula of Michigan.  The park has an area in excess of 9000 acres and overlooks the valley of the East Branch of the Au Sable River.  There are four small lakes and extensive timber lands.

The most unique feature of the park a 49 acre stand of Old Growth Pines.  These Old Growth Pines provide a living reminder of the splendor of the past and the importance of lumbering to Michigan.

If you are looking for a nearby Michigan getaway vacation that will get you back in touch with nature, this park is the ticket.

Just  a couple of miles east of I-75 near Grayling, you can take a 30 minute break and walk back in time.

As you stroll beneath the tall pines, the needles on the ground silence your footsteps.  In fact, silence will envelope you and, along with the scents and whispering breeze, will refresh you in no time at all.
