logoIf you’re in Barry, Eaton, Ionia, Kent or Montcalm counties of west central Michigan, pause in your travels and seek out one or more museums of the Tri-River Historical Museum Network.  Twenty nine  member museums and historical societies with proximity along the Grand, Flat and Thornapple Rivers have joined together to support one another and share ideas and programs.

These picturesque small town or rural museums are housed in a variety of buildings that in their heyday were schools, churches, meeting halls, homes, businesses or even railroad depots. Their displays vary greatly, but all have the goal of depicting their unique community heritage for all to enjoy.

The first weekend of May (May 5 and 6 in 2018), the Tri-River Museums host their annual “Spring Into the Past” open house tour when nearly all museums are open from 11 am to 5 pm on that Saturday and Sunday - and all are free.  The theme for 2018 continues “Fashions Through the Ages” and many museums will have special displays on the theme.  A booklet about our museums is available at www.commoncorners.com.  Booklets are available at all museums; ask for a brochure of our new Tri-River Quilt Trail too.

Friendly volunteers will welcome you and may offer personal tours if you want to learn the “inside” story of their artifacts or exhibits. Be sure and sign their guest books and tell them you learned of them from “Michigan Back Roads”!
