Inverted Forest, Horton Bay, Michigan
Hidden away on Lake Charlevoix is an upside down forest. You can't see it from the road so you need to know which trail to take. The forest is west of what the locals call the "dog beach"; that is where everyone takes their dogs to play in the cool waters. Another way to get to the "inverted forest" is from Young's State Park. At the boat launch, take the beach side path heading east and you will get to it eventually.
While the upside down trees aren't visible from the road, the forest is big enough to be visible from the other side of the lake. If you head out of Boyne City on the way to the Ironton Ferry, you will come to a small county park with a beach and camp ground. The "inverted forest" is visible across the lake from that beach.
It may not be the most amazing back roads site but, it does make for a fun destination while enjoying another gorgeous sunset.
